Times Higher Education (THE) is one of the three leading international rankings of universities and higher education institutions, and is based on 13 indicators in teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The THE ranking of universities for 2024 was published at the end of September, and Lund University was ranked 106th out of approximately 1,900 higher education institutions.
In mid-October, the THE Ranking for Law was published, a separate subject review with the same methodology as the World University Ranking but with subject-specific weighting. The 2024 subject ranking lists Lund University in 38th place for law, which is a substansial improvement compared to last year's 50th place.
University rankings should generally be read with great caution ̧ the separate subject ranking for law in THE was first introduced in 2017 and the first years were characterized by large fluctuations, but it now seems to have stabilized. At the same time, the Faculty of Law takes a very positive view of the fact that the research in law and the legal programmes at Lund University have had a strong impact on the results of the rankings.
